Paris Workshop | 10-11 November 2018

In this workshop we’ll spend two days together, combining a perspective workshop and a sketching and painting workshop into one weekend. Perspective is the foundation of your sketches, and something many people struggle with. Let me take the mystery out of for you! Once we have a firm grasp of these fundamentals, we’ll apply these techniques over the rest of the weekend, sketching and painting beautiful Paris. I will lead you through my process of telling a compelling story with a painting.

Day One is our perspective workshop. We will begin at 10am for coffee and introductions. I’ll share my personal theory on color, light, composition, and how to convey a mood with a painting, but we will spend most of the day covering all aspects of perspective and how to use this powerful tool to bring life to your sketches. I will teach you one-, two-, and three-point perspective, how to find your horizon line, what vanishing points are, and how to apply all of this when you’re faced with a scene “in the wild”.

We will work in watercolor sketchbooks or loose sheets, and the media will be pen and ink and watercolor. Lunch will be in a nearby café. Group size is limited, so there will be plenty of time for one-on-one instruction. Our first day will end at 5pm.

Day Two will begin at 10am, and we’ll have a real chance to dive in deep, applying what we’ve learned about technique and composition to create beautiful pieces. The weather in November can be unpredictable, so most likely we will be indoors, working from photograph reference. We’ll explore different tricks you can apply to your sketches, and some new ways of seeing. Lunch will again be in a nearby café, after which we’ll have a full afternoon of painting together. Our second day will end at 5pm.

This workshop will be conducted in English. Je parle un peu le français, mais pas très bien. Mais je comprends le français, donc si vous avez des questions, ce n'est pas un problème en français. Je veux que tout le monde comprenne.

The price of the workshop is €160/person.
Price includes breakfast (croissants and coffee).
